Description Dave 2006-10-02 13:29:17 UTC
Version: 1.9.1 (using KDE KDE 3.5.2)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

After upgrading to the latest version of KDE (Ubuntu dapper drake) I can no longer send email using the authenticated SMTP methods.

Previously, my setup worked using either SSL or TLS to the server. Now, I can:

- check which methods the server supports

However, when I try to send mail, I get a message saying

Sending failed:
Authentication failed.
Most likely the password is wrong.
The server responded: "5.7.0 authentication failed"

I know the obvious conclusion is that the password is wrong, but a) it isn't ;) and b) it used to work.

I don't think this is the same as http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97139 - I've checked the OpenSSL setup and that works fine, and I get the same error with both SSL and TLS, using Digest-MD5.

Thanks,
dave

I've had the same problem with an unencrypted connection:
- either use a shorter password
- or upgrade to 1.9.4

Are you using SMTP passwords which contain the !-character?

Probably already fixed, please reopen if you can still reproduce with KMail 1.9.9
