Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.4) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux After upgrading from kde 3.5.3 to kde 3.5.4 and trying to send mail using the smtp protocol it fails with the following message. Sending failed: The process for the smtp://hostname protocol died unexpectedly. The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder. The following transport protocol was used: protocolname. In kde 3.5.3 there were no problems. The same problem has happened on two different computers. Both computers use kubuntu dapper 6.06 and are fully up to date. There is no indication in the logs of any error messages that I could find. I have tried all different combinations of settings and removed and re-installed kmail and kdebase-kio-plugins with no success. Here is the relevent excerpt from kmailrc [Transport 1] auth=true authtype=NTLM encryption=NONE host=xxxxxxx id=somenumberideleted localHostname= name=Erkunt Tarim port=25 precommand= specifyHostname=false storepass=false type=smtp user=xxxxxxxxxxx [sending mail] Immediate=true Quoted-Printable=true
Does it work with a newly created user?
That is a very good suggestion and I immediately tried it. Unfortunately even with a new user it still doesnt work.
Are you still seeing this problem in 3.5.6?
I have upgraded to edgy and using 3.5.5 I have no problem.
I am running KMail 1.9.6 (KDE 3.5.6) and I am experiencing the same problem. I deleted the kmail settings under ~/.kde and re-setup KMail and still the SMTP process dies whenever it tries to send e-mail. I can see an initial connection to the mail server at the time of the process crashing. I am running this on an OpenBSD 4.1 -current system which comes with gcc 3.3.5.
Reassigning the bugs of the SMTP, IMAP and POP ioslaves to kdepim-bugs.

Please report if this is still a problem in KDE 4.3
