Description Denis 2006-08-28 10:39:43 UTC
Version: 0.12.2 (using KDE KDE 3.5.2)
Installed from:    Ubuntu Packages
Compiler:          GCC 4.0.3
OS:                Linux

I have three accounts configured - ICQ, MSN and Jabber (from google).
Every time I fire kopete up there are two more added automatically.
Also, both of them pop up a request for password (because I never configured a password for them).

A picture of this behavior:

I just upgraded recently from 3.5.3 to 3.5.4 (gentoo linux), and this behaviour started happening with Kopete for all our users with Jabber accounts.

You can remove the "EMPTY@" account, but it gets autocreated again next time Kopete is launched.

The only fix seems to be to rm -rf .kde/share/apps/kopete, and rm .kde/share/config/kopeterc and recreate your accounts. What a pain!

Out of question.
I am not going to delete my whole log folder along with this.
Besides that this was the initial setup. Did not use kopete before.

What does your .kde/share/config/kopeterc contains for theses accounts ?

What does your .kde/share/config/kopeterc contains for theses accounts ?
And does appears in the debug output chan you start kopete (and thioses account are create)
Or does any reference to theses account is in the contactlist.xml file ?

I indeed had the two extra accounts configured in kopeterc:

[Account_JabberProtocol_EMPTY]
AccountId=EMPTY@
AutoConnect=true
Password=
PluginData_JabberProtocol_Server=
Protocol=JabberProtocol

[Account_MSNProtocol_EMPTY]
AccountId=EMPTY
AutoConnect=true
Password=
Protocol=MSNProtocol

Removing these blocks stoped kopete from creating the accounts every startup, or in other words, solved the issue.

I can't reproduce this with Kopete 0.12.5. If you can provide exact instructions on how we might be able to reproduce this bug, please reopen it.

For the record, I added a Jabber account along with AIM and MSN that I had already previously configured, connected it, disconnected it, and then restarted Kopete.

Maybe I have an idea to reproduce the bug.
I have an empty msn account while à delete all the cached files in my user folder. (I deleted all /home/user)
And after a restart, kopete asked me for the password of an empty account everytime I started it.
I tried to reinstall kopete, but no effets.
Maybe it's the way to reproduce the bug...
