It works correctly in other IRC clients according to other users on the channel.
This seems a dupe of #132105 Looking back, I should have chosen a better title. Did it even show up in the list of similar bug reports?
I'd say both are related but not necessarily the same. Channel names are highlighted all the time, this text should only be bold not highlighted and bold. I don't know wheter those are different code paths or the same.
