Version: 1.4.1 (using KDE KDE 3.5.2) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux Hi! I saw a couple of discussions about that topic and it seems to be quite controversal. I didn't find anything that fitted exactly my vision of how it should be, though. The situation is as follows: Most of my songs are grouped as albums with songs of one artist only. Some albums are compilations though with hundreds of artists together. What I'd like to do is to show all the albums as well as the compilations and view the artist of the album (except the compilations). Like this: +Various Artist +Compilation 1 +Compilation 2 ... +Artist 1 +Album 1 +Album 2 +Artist 2 ... The first part is possible with amarok 1.4.1: I see the list of all albums by choosing "Group by Album", but I don't see the according artists name. If I choose "Group by Artist/Album" instead, I see a list of hundreds of artists, each with one song on one compilation. They are listed in "Various Artists", too. As other people seem to prefer a different behaviour than I do, I have the following proposition: Every time I can choose "Artist", I could be able to choose "Artist (no various artists)", too, so it would group the various artists. This would not harm the possibilities other people have at the moment. Unfourtunately, I don't feel capable of contributing code, but I hope you think about my wishes anyway :-) Greetings, Ingo Müller BTW: The "Show under various artists" is a VERY GREAT idea!! I just want it to show it under various artists *only*.
There is no need to provide extra options to the user. We are faced to make life changing decisions everyday in Amarok, and this is one of them. However, i do see your point, Compilation albums make no sense when viewing the browser without albums showing.
Bugs 125837, 132209, and 125689 seem related. 125689 has a patch. Maybe a developer could review that?
I agree -- viewing by artist (or by some combination of artist/genre) should completely remove Various Artists and list songs under the correct artist. I was trying to use the collection browser--grouped by artists only--to go through and clean up my artist tags (fix misspellings and the like). But now I can't do this, because some songs show up under the artist name, but others show up under "Various Artists". This process is now much more tedious for me than it otherwise would be.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug for Amarok. Amarok 1.4 is now unmaintained and will no longer see any improvements. Because of this, and the massive amount of changes Amarok has undergone throughout the 2.x series of releases, we are closing bugs that no longer apply to the 2.x series due to changes in functionality, the underlying architecture, or a conflict for the vision of Amarok 2. We appreciate the time you took to provide feedback about Amarok 1.4 and will look forward to any feedback you may provided about Amarok 2. Thanks.
Why have you closed this feature request? This is still relevant, AFAIK Amarok 2.x still cannot do this!
Re-opening and moving to a currently-supported version.
