I'm not a developer but i wanted to bugreport this too. 1) GO online with status message 2) wait for autoaway 3) move mouse and now account is online and status message is lost

It's even easier to reproduce than waiting for the auto-away and restoring status; just change your status to away for all accounts and restore to online (I use the global shortcut CTRL-SHIFT-W) and the status message will be cleared. I could see this implemented as as preference as I'm sure there are many people that use status messages only for away messages, but it's becoming much more common to use status messages for "I'm currently doing task X" and it doesn't matter if they go away or come back online, they're still doing task X.
I think that auto-away message shouldn't be set if there is already a message set. Maybe some people might disagree. So, I see two possible proposed behaviors: 1. When going to auto-away, set the auto-away message. When going back to online, set the online msg back. 2. When going to auto-away, set the auto-away message only if current online message is blank. Else, don't change the message, change only the status. In either case, restore the online message when going back online. (I personally prefer the second behavior) What kopete (version 0.12.5, kdelibs-3.5.7) currently does is to always set the auto-away message, and then erasing it when going back to online, which is not desirable.
