Description Sebastian Beca 2006-08-01 01:52:32 UTC
Version: 1.4.1 (using KDE KDE 3.5.3)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS: Linux

Could there be a way to rate complete albums instead of "per-track"?

Related Brainstorm:
- Tag complete albums with a rating (stars from 1-5.0)
- Album rating can be set by user or calculated as track average per album.
- View albums by rating (Favorite album browser)
- Show album rating in collection browser
- Order albums by artist in context browser by Rating OR Year.
- Add personal comments to album. (e.g. personal or media reviews)
- Script idea: Make a webpage of you music collection with ratings and reviews.

This would add too much complexity, particularly to the user interface. There is no need to assign ratings to albums and tracks. You can acheive what you want by rating the individual tracks.

I would certainly like to see album ratings make it into Amarok 2.0 too. With large library's, it's almost impossible to rate individual tracks and being able to rate an entire album makes things much more easy.

@Seb Ruiz: Too much complexity? In the context menu should be a rating box just like the one used for rating individual tracks. Place it besides the album image under the album playcounter. The ratings for an album could be saved in the album-table of the amarok database (in case of MySQL).

Should be possible in the Amarok 2.0 architecture, but we aren't placing it at a high priority, just to let you know.
Comment 4 Fabian Zeindl 2008-01-04 13:08:53 UTC
Can we reopen this as low priority? I love to see the feature in amarok too, and when it comes to the userinterface, I think there are more severe UI-problems in amarok now - the podcast management for example is horrible to some extend.

And rating albums is not the same as rating invididual tracks...

Yep, album rating is different from track rating. It's faster on the one hand but also the concept is much more intuitive if you listen on a per album basis (as in your old CD/record collection).

After the despair of not finding Amarok for windows, I've been using Foobar lately. It has album rating and after a while, you can get it to work very nicely and similar to Amarok in many features.
Sebastian.

Reopen upon request!

I too would really like to see album rating. This is especially applicable for mix or other compilation-style albums where an individual track is less meaningful compared to the album as a whole.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug for Amarok. Amarok 1.4 is now unmaintained and will no longer see any improvements. Because of this, and the massive amount of changes Amarok has undergone throughout the 2.x series of releases, we are closing bugs that no longer apply to the 2.x series due to changes in functionality, the underlying architecture, or a conflict for the vision of Amarok 2.

We appreciate the time you took to provide feedback about Amarok 1.4 and will look forward to any feedback you may provided about Amarok 2. Thanks.
