Description Szokovacs Robert 2006-07-31 14:28:05 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.4)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

I'd like see artsd as a system wide service, not strictly user-based. The problem is if more than one user shares a machine, wether or not they're greeted with an error message by the sound daemon depends on the ALSA/OSS driver (is it possible to open the device more than once) and the other users (do they currently use the sound system and what timeout is set), which is not good. I'm hoping for an artsd that starts on-demand, and if an other instance is running it simply connects to it.

Arts is no longer developed and has been unmaintained for quite some time - more than 2 years. With phonon as the replacement for arts in KDE4, we're closing out all the arts bugs in Bugzilla since there is no chance of them being fixed.

Thanks
