Version: 0.5.2 (using KDE KDE 3.5.2) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux When I print a document from kpdf, the kprinter dialog appears and I check that duplex printing is set to off (which is by the way the default for my printer). Regardless of that setting, the document is printed with duplex on (long side). First I thought it was a bug with kdeprint or kprinter but since it only happens with kpdf (not with acroread or xpdf, even when those apps use kprinter) I'm pretty confident it is a kpdf bug. In case it helps, my printer is a HP 6122 with duplex support using the recommended hpijs driver ( HP DeskJet 6122 Foomatic/hpijs (recommended) - HPLIP 0.9.7). This happens with every pdf file I print regardless of its origin (creation method) and its number of pages (even single page documents are printed with duplex : the second side remains empty but passes through the printer. This does not happen with document printed by other apps, even kde ones like a web page printed by konqueror or a pdf printed by kghostview.
Well, the bug is right and wrong. Right kpdf ignores duplex setting. Wrong we don't force it, we always disable it. "How? If i get it forced" you may ask. That is because poppler is not using real kpdf but a heavily patched one.
Thanks you for your comments. I had difficulties understanding your reply because the relation between kpdf and poppler was far from clear to me. After much reading, I deduced that official stable KDE releases still use xpdf as a renderer for Kpdf (even though poppler will replace xpdf in the future) and that because they find it more convenient the Kubuntu team has replaced the offical Kpdf by a non offical patched one using poppler. Is my understanding correct ? If this is correct, this bug shouldn't have been placed here. In your opinion, should I open a bug against poppler or Kubuntu (or both)? Thanks for your time and your work.
Spoke with kdeprint developers and told me the correct thing to do is ALWAYS create the ps in kpdf without duplex and kdeprint will add the duplex options if the user selected them. So kpdf is correct and the bug is in ubuntu's kpdf. I'm closing this bug and you should open one in their side.
I've just stumpled upon this issue too. Here are the corresponding (K)Ubuntu and Gentoo bug reports: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/kdegraphics/+bug/54154 http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=148259
