Description Peter Lewis 2006-07-17 09:36:04 UTC
Version: 1.2 (using KDE 3.5.1 Level "a" , SUSE 10.1)
Compiler: Target: i586-suse-linux
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.16.13-4-smp

The identity chosen by kmail for a reply appears to be the first identity with the same "email address" property as the "to address" of the email being replied to.

When a new mail is created it uses the sender identity assigned to the folder. Should not this behaviour be used for replies?

The problem is most noticeable when one has a special identity for emailing ones children with "Love from Dad" in the signature but the same email address as that used for messages to other personal contacts. If the children's profile is before the general personal one in the kmail settings, then caution has to be exercised whenever a reply is created.

This is a dupe of an existing kmail bug that I will track down later.

This still happens in Kontact 4.3.0 / KMail 1.12.0.
Has anybody else experienced this behavior?

Dupe of Bug #232290 IMHO.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2.

We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.

I am (still) using Kmail with the 4.11.5 version from openSuSE 13.1.
We still have the behaviour that a new mail from a folder (highlight folder, press <ctrl>n) will use the identity assigned to that folder but when replying to a message in the same folder (select message, press r) will use the default identity.

As I use my identities to apply suitable signatures for different addressees this is a bit of a pain. Quite frankly I have just got used to the behaviour and select the appropriate identity myself. It is not a show-stopper just a nice feature missed.

This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kmail2 (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.12 or later), it gets closed in about three months.

I can confirm that in 4.14 the reply identity recognises the send identity of the folder so the bug has been resolved.
