Description Gustavo Sverzut Barbieri 2006-07-09 17:01:22 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.3)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

About 2 years ago I reported this inside a bigger bug report, but it got closed because it was to "general". Since nothing was done related to Chat Window so far, I'm opening this bug. You may refer to my first bug #92966.

My kopete chat window, with just "Main Toolbar" has, in order:
 - Save [not often used]
 - Print [not often used]
 - Cut [?]
 - Copy [?]
 - Paste [?]
 - Smiles
 - Back (log)
 - Next (log)
 - Enable Rich Text
 - Spell Check
 - Kopete Animation

First icons (Save, Print), as stated before, are not often used, at least the vast majority of 20-50 people I've asked said so. Note that there is no functionality is lost: these still can be accessed from Chatwindow Menu and possible add these icons using "Customize Toolbar".

Cut, Copy and Paste are useful, but I wonder how useful it is. KMail does have it in its composer window. KWord als does. So maybe it's ok to have it on Kopete, however I personally don't like it. Also, Henrique post is about Kdict, not Kopete toolbar :-/

Worse than before, there is no way to remove Save and Print buttons from "Customize Toolbar" anymore!

I don't use "Format Toolbar" myself, however I do also think it could be simplified and split into "Format" and "Advanced Format", with the former containing just Bold, Italic, Underline, Colors; Advanced would hold font settings and alignment. This would leave enough space to enable Main and Format to fit into a single toolbar line.

A problem that were not in my first bug report but did show after KDE 3.5.3 is the tab in chatwindow. Before It just show when I had more than one tab, right now it shows always! However I just group chats from same meta contact in one chatwindow... so often I just have one tab... and it takes space and looks ugly :-(

Thanks!

Hi.
I have this problem too.
I want one window per conversation, I don't use tabs, and *no toolbar at all*.
When you want a "simple" chat box, this omnipresent tab not only eats many
pixels, but it's also really useless as it displays strictly the same infos as
the title bar (see the screenshot).

Maybe the solution would be to add an entry in the "Tab Placement" Menu
(right-click on the tab): in addition to TOP & BOTTOM, add "HIDDEN" ?
The Tab-bar would appear only when 2 or more conversations are docked in the
same window.

This problem (omnipresent tab-bar) appeared a few months ago. Before, the Tabs
behaviour was perfect (for me).

Hope this help :)

I believe your toolbar issue is resolved in the KDE4 version of Kopete.

Your tab issue belongs in a separate bug. If you still have this problem in KDE4's Kopete, please file a new bug.
