Description FACORAT Fabrice 2006-07-07 18:26:05 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.3)
Installed from: Mandriva RPMs
OS: Linux

If for whatever reasons HAL cannot be contacted when KDE session starts, there does not appear to be any easy way to reinitialize media service. KDE won't recognize new devices nor show them under media:/.

It seems that KDE falls back to /etc/fstab reading, but as new HAL no longer write entries in /etc/fsatb, this means that removable media are not detected.

Maybe KDE should try afterwards to see if HAL is running and reenable HAL support.

There's an interesting suggestion in this comment. If possible, what about being registered to receive notification from D-Bus when HAL is started and
reinitialize halbackend after that ?

kio media doesn't exist on KDE4.
