Description Mark Veltzer 2006-06-12 11:49:07 UTC
Version: 0.1 (using KDE 3.5.3, Debian Package 4:3.5.3-1 (testing/unstable))
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.16-2-686

Here is a scenario:

I run kjobviewer manually (because I want it permenantly in the system tray).
I click on "Keep window permenant" (I think that this is not the option that I want because I don't want to "Keep the window permentant" but rather keep the system tray icon permenant...).
I close kjobviewer and it is in the tray.
I logout.
I login.
Kjobviewer is restored with the rest of the session but IT IS OPEN. It was not open when I logged out. Moreover, the "keep window permenant" toggle is not OFF altough I explicitly clicked it on.
In a second or so (I assume when it sees that there are no jobs) it disappears from the desktop and also from the tray.

A few more issues:
1. The "keep the window permenant" belongs in the configuration dialog and NOT on the main screen. Users look for configuration options in the configuration dialog and not on the main screen. I was damn lucky to find it there.
2. I don't know what "keep the window permenant" means. I know what "keep permenanly in the system tray" means. A lot of kde programs have that option. But I have never seen a program with "keep window permenant".

Thanks

Mark,

try this command:

    ksystraycmd --hidden kjobviewer

Mark,

if the last one didn't help on its own, set it up as KDE Autostart.
Comment 3 Maciej Pilichowski 2007-01-14 09:40:04 UTC
Kurt the last (#2) won't help -- Kjobviewer will be doubled (one from session restore the second from the autostart).

Mark,

Do you mean "is not on"?

However, the last two issues are valid and really important -- is there a chance to change the bug status?

KDEPrint in KDE3 is unmaintained and will have no more new features
implemented. The usability improvement part of this bug will never be implemented in KDEPrint as a result.

In KDE4 kjobviewer has been replaced by printer-applet which uses
system-config-printer as a backend. printer-applet does not support keeping permenantly in the system tray, a separate feature request will be raised for this.

Keeping open for the incorrect behaviour part of the bug, although it is highly unlikely to be fixed.

Doh, didn't mean to resolve this one.
Comment 6 John Layt 2011-05-27 18:18:58 UTC
KDEPrint is obsolete, unmaintained and will never be revived. Closing all open bugs.
