Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.3) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux RE: Adept Updater Great job, Peter. I am very impressed with adept and updater, and find it one of the best package managers out there. Here are a few wishes related to the above issues: Is it possible to add a section called "Reason for Update" followed by a short paragraph summary of /why/ packager has updated. Mandrake's Control Centre has done this for years, and it is very much missed when working on other distros. This information invaluable in selectively updating packages, and is much easier to understand than the change logs (although Mandrake makes those available as well, if you wish). Another excellent point about Mandrake's system that you can see which updates are feature enhancements and which are security. Again, invaluable in selectively applying security patches only when maintaining a server. Hope you find this suggestion useful. Cheers, Mike
That would be indeed nice, however the backend model of package updates does not support that for now, so i cannot implement that. The security/non-security updates probably could be done, but still not clear, easy nor distribution-portable. So this needs cooperation with package providers. Leaving unconfirmed for now, i will think about it later...
Would be nice to have the systray icon change depending on whether the update is a critical one or not. Today's update was simply a change to the ubuntu docs, and perhaps shouldn't have appeared as a "Hazard" sign! I also second the wish for a "Reason for update"
Sounds like bug 113858.
As a former user of Mandrake I also miss this feature very much. At least a basic changelog; more details in the form of security/new version/etc would be of course welcome.
Let's say this is a dupe of Bug#113858 indeed. I suppose, the initial reporter would be satisfied with the changelog.Debian excerpt since the latest installed version to the latest available. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 113858 ***
