It would be nice if digiKam would include a possibility to find out the total number of pictures in the whole collection. For example, there could be an option to show the number of photos in an album in parentheses right after the album's name. As this number would also appear in "My albums", one would instantly see the total number of pictures.

Yes, a collection statistic can be usefull with for example how many PNG, JPEG, TIFF files are stored for example...
