Description Benjamin Creekmore 2006-05-31 05:08:31 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.3)
Installed from: Debian stable Packages
OS: Linux

-because all alarms should be centralized
-because amarok's alarm does not work.
we should have a template built into kalarm for audio programs... expand the "play song" section to incorporate amarok setting... instead of just using the command "dcop amarok player play" as a pre-alarm action - located in "special actions"

Just to be sure what you're asking for:
Are you suggesting that when you select a sound file, there should be an option available to select which application to use to play it, rather than just use aRts as KAlarm does currently?

that sounds like a good idea. And then features such as start vol... max
fade-in volume, duration of fade-in, option to stop an alread-playing
player... for those of us who sleep by the computer listening to streams,
playlist selection (current, or other-something specific you usually never
listen to)... a specific song.... repeated or not repeated, and snooze!
I know this is a lot.. but worth the effort. Mac even did a commercial in
the 90's advertising using music as an alarm.

The ability for KAlarm to play sound files through specified applications is really beyond the scope of KAlarm, because it would require KAlarm to know how to play files in all possible applications. Bear in mind that applications can come and go, and possibly change their interfaces.

This is really best handled by the Special Actions feature, where any command can be entered by the user to achieve their aim.
