Description Wolf Giesen 2006-05-30 07:36:48 UTC
Version: 0.19 (using KDE KDE 3.5.2)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc 3.4.6 ( i686) System flags: -march=pentium4 -O2 -pipe
OS: Linux

I have no clue where to start searching, but until version 0.18, konversations behaved completey as expected when connecting through a "miau" bouncer on localhost. After upgrading to konversation-0.19, a lot of nicks are missing from the nicklist, sometimes it shows no nicks at all (not even my own). This is not 100% reproducable in terms of which nicks are displayed and which aren't, but I could not get it to show them all in any case.

I tried varios versions of miau with the same effect. Downgrading to konversation-0.18 made it work again. I'm in the process of trying with a different IRC client and a different bouncer (and the resulting combinations), but I thought I'd drop the bug as early as possible.

Thanks for listening.

Addendum: I tried KVirc (3.2) now, and it does _not_ exhibit the described problem, so I'd say it's really a problem with konversation.
Comment 2 Eike Hein 2006-05-30 13:19:03 UTC
You can help us to debug this by checking "Show raw log window when connecting" in Behavior->Connection in the preferences dialog. When this is enabled, an additional "Raw" tab for the server connection will appear the next time you connect your bouncer, displaying the raw IRC protocol stream exchanged between you and the bouncer.

Then you need to join a channel, and when you are certain that some nicks in the channel are missing in the nicklist, we need (a) the raw log from the Raw tab, (b) a screenshot of the nicklist, (c) a list of the nicks you are confident are missing in the nicklist.

This way we can attempt to detect the difference between the nicks that do show up and those that don't, and hopefully rectify the problem.

Alright, this is unfortunately inconclusive (353 and 366 look fine on the surface), so I'll get myself an instance of miau 0.6.0.2 to try and reproduce the problem locally.

A possible fix has been added to the SVN version of Konversation. Please test if this fixes your problems.

Instructions how to retrieve and test the SVN version of Konversation can be found here: http://konversation.kde.org/wiki/index.php/SVN

Ok, built it. Complained about the "Broken nick list sort order found, resetting to defaults". Looks ok so far on the smaller channels I'm on; on the bigger channels, though, I still miss nicks.

Example:

Okay, please update your checkout and try once more.
Comment 12 Eike Hein 2006-06-03 22:40:17 UTC
Further changes have been made - please make sure you have at least build #3109 (see "About" dialog) for testing.
Comment 13 Wolf Giesen 2006-06-06 10:04:17 UTC
Jeez, what's with bugzie these days? Been trying for ages :(

Anyway, build 3100 looks promising. Please allow a couple of days before I give my final verdict, but at least it looked good on the first startup!
Comment 14 Wolf Giesen 2006-06-06 10:13:53 UTC
Uh, seems #3100 was the last version I was able to checkout this morning...
Comment 15 Eike Hein 2006-06-06 13:26:54 UTC
It looks like you're doing a checkout of the 0.19 tag then (#3100 being the build number of that release), and not trunk. Or you are not actually starting your checkout but your distro's 0.19 due to your environment not being set up correctly (paths, etc.).

The correct location in the repository is shown here: http://konversation.kde.org/wiki/SVN

The current version number is 0.19+ #3109: http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/extragear/network/konversation/src/commit.h?rev=547909&view=markup
Comment 16 Wolf Giesen 2006-06-07 08:44:18 UTC
As of #3109 I consider this fixed, at least I've had no more problems during the last two days.
