I launched k3b from kterm (left above).
Term showed inquiry error.
and I saw device status in k3b. It's take 80 seconds.
k3b showed media size was 0B and left size was 0B.
but estimated size was 4.7GB! (see right below corner)
The inserted media was double layer empty 8.5GB DVD.
(The drive and medias are all OK in Windows2000)

The other software inquired right infomations.
See below.
It's shows Free Blocks:4171104*2KB.

I set the permission of /dev/system to user readable one.
Anyhow I could write DVD with k3b.
http://www.pine-kz.com/k3b2.jpg

But it seems to me some wrong process remains.
Waiting for media takes over 4 minutes.
I've never seen such a long time k3b sought medias.

thanks.

Does k3b get the media size right now?
Comment 3 pine_kz 2006-05-15 15:47:08 UTC
>Does k3b get the media size right now?
no
Comment 4 Sebastian Trueg 2006-05-16 08:56:26 UTC
please try k3b 0.12.15. SCSI device access has been improved.
Comment 5 pine_kz 2006-05-16 13:34:24 UTC
Can you see the version of the screenshot in comment#1?
Comment 6 pine_kz 2006-05-16 13:39:15 UTC
Sorry. Can you see the version of k3b in the screenshot of comment#1?
Comment 7 Sebastian Trueg 2006-05-16 14:29:15 UTC
hmm.. did not see that before. I just read the version in the bug report. Too
bad. Well, then we have to do some more digging. Can you please run k3b from
a console, insert the problematic medium, right click the device,
select "diskinfo" and send me the output on the console and a screenshot of
the diskinfo to trueg@k3b.org
Comment 8 pine_kz 2006-05-16 20:33:53 UTC
I thought the reason of success was to change the permission of /dev/system yesterday.
That's wrong. Today,I saw the permission was auto-recovered.
Though the permission was denied, writing succeeded.
But all is slow.
Diskinfo takes 80 seconds.
Data preparation takes 2minutes &half.
Waiting disk and burning start is more 1 minutes &half later.
It takes 4 minutes to start burning.

I'll send you a screenshot.

All I can say is that you can trust me with an ssh account but that does not say much really. ;)
Comment 10 pine_kz 2006-06-02 15:27:51 UTC
All that you say is that is nuisance what you don't want.
I can't lie awake when most of japanese sleep.
Comment 11 Sebastian Trueg 2006-11-18 14:32:39 UTC
I lost track of this one. Did we fix that?
Comment 12 pine_kz 2006-11-20 12:28:06 UTC
I'm now using k3B 0.12.17 (KDE3.5.5 release 45.1).
It's also take 82seconds to show disk info.
Comment 13 Sebastian Trueg 2006-12-07 21:49:33 UTC
K3b 1.0beta1 does it another way. It checks the medium in the background.
Could you please try that and see if it is more usable?

In an attempt to clean up old bugs that are not valid for K3b 2.0 (=KDE SC 4.x port) anymore, this is now being marked as UNMAINTAINED.
If this bug is still valid for 2.0, please reopen it.
