Version: 0.11.93 (0.12 Beta 2) (using KDE 3.5.2, Debian Package 4:3.5.2-2+b1 (testing/unstable)) Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.17-rc3 It look exactly like bug 59080, but that one should be couple of years RESOLVED so I am opening new bug. I have here kopete/SVN from this morning (version 539691) and whenever I switch to new IRC channel or any other chat, Formatting toolbar is always switched on. It doesn't matter whether I switched this toolbar before, it is always there. Is there any way how to get formatting ALWAYS off? Thanks.
is this because rich text is being enabled (the red pencil icon) or does it always do this even without rich text? try this: make sure rich-text is off, right-click on the toolbar, click 'toolbars' -> 'format toolbar' to turn the darn thing off. then close the chatwindow, reopen it, and see whether it comes back. there is currently no way to get that toolbar to never-ever show up, unless you edit the source to have rich text disabled by default or something.
I have followed your advice and that bloody formatting toolbar and rich text editing is there still. I have even RichText editor=false in Appearance section of kopeterc but kopete apparently put EnableRichText=true all over the place. I will get rid off them and try again.
No change -- kopete apparently ignores richtexteditor settings in kopeterc.
Correction for the bug 127738 comment 3: setting is saved and restored for the P2P chats only.
one more correction -- for Jabber MUC rich text editing is on as well, but formatting toolbar doesn't jump up. Weird.
With the recent kopete (was ok with last 0.12-beta version) formatting toolbar appears for jabber contacts, even if switched off. It was ok before. It doesn't happen with MSN plugin.

Disabling rich text fix the problem for me
Where do you disable rich text completely? Whenever I switch it off (with the toolbar icon), it gets back.
http://hibbert.univ-lille3.fr/~cbellegarde/richtext.png Clicking on the green pen works for me, i can now disable the toolbar...
Yeah, but does it stick, or do you have to click this button every time you enter IRC channel or Jabber MUC?
Weird, with today's SVN of kopete (still in 0.12 line, of course) no richtext is switched on when I run /join from individual message tab (message from Nickserv), but then when I run /join from a channel tab, rich text formatting (and toolbar) is back there.
Using jabber/0.12 (appeared there, wasn't in gentoo's 0.12-beta2-r1), I fiddled with this one issue lately, and it seems that for me the rich text toolbar is indeed remembered via the "red pencil" button, but as a "per contact" setting only. The menu entry just does nothing (memory-wise) as if: 1. it does not store the setting 2. it stores it, but on recall it's overridden by the "per contact" setting 3. it involves sacrificing goats at the same time (but I have none at hand) Troublesome and unexpected behaviour.
I am having trouble with this as well, in various forms. From the sound of it, rich text cannot be disabled for all contacts, and if I want rich text then I'm forced to have the toolbar. I would be nice if some set of compromises were reached.

This is still happening with 0.12.3 (using KDE 3.5.2), although somehow I didn't have a problem with 0.11.1 or whatever. It would be nice if we could have some way of hiding the Format / Rich Text toolbar globally regardless of whether Rich Text is enabled or disabled; for that matter, I suppose it would be nice if we could enable or disable Rich Text globally as well.
I'm using Kopete 0.12.3 on KDE 3.5.5 on Fedora Core 6. I have noticed the following behaviour. In my kopeterc, I have "RichText editor=false". When I open new tabs for any MSN contact, the rich text toolbar does NOT appear. However, for any other protocols (Yahoo, AIM, ICQ), the toolbar appears. Kopete appends a section to kopeterc for each contact, and for MSN, defaults to "EnableRichText=false" while for the others, it defaults to "EnableRichText=true". I can edit these manually, and turn off the rich text for each contact individually, but that is not the way to do things. I would prefer if Kopete defaulted to "EnableRichText=false" for all contacts and all protocols, and not just for MSN.
While everything was ok with kopete 0.11, 0.12 drives me crazy since I have to disable richtext for *every single jabber contact*.
I'm seeing the same as #18. In addition, the same thing seems to be happening with Automatic Spell checking. The default for MSN is on, for Jabber is off, for seemingly no reason.

Is it really a duplicate? The first post states it is not.
Where has been this fixed? This is still broken!
I reopened bug 59080, please follow up there.
this is fixed in kopete svn
Was it also fixed in the 3.5 svn? Or just the 4.x series?
Just in KDE 4.2
Sorry not in 4.2 but in 4.x series
