the number shown in the status line is the number of images WITH dates, the nubmer in the time line is the number WITHOUT dates

Can you try this with a recent release?  I can't reproduce it.  Please try with the latest release (3.0.2) or with the version from SVN.

Ferdinand, did you use the "privacy" feature (say "lock away current set of images" and so on)?
