Description tejinder 2006-04-25 15:15:41 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.2)
Installed from: Unlisted Binary Package
OS: Linux

this is the copy of Bug 125407, which i accidently pasted in the wrong section. i did'nt find a way to mave it to the proper section, so here i am filling another report. sorry

i am using arch linux 0.7.1, kernel 2.6.16.3, kde 3.5.2 build i686 with nvidia driver 1.0.7174. now the problem is, whichever kde application i run, and when i mouse over the menus of the application, the description dialog which shows up, has blurred fonts and when i remouse over it for the second time, the font gets normal. example: when i mouse over the buddy list of kopete, the font if blurred in the user information dialog which shows up. and when i remouse over it for the second time, the issue is resolved. now after switching between application, again the problem persists.

here is the screeshot of the problem. please resolve the issue asap. thanx.

I suggest you contact the arch linux maintainers. Because I have never seen the problem, but it seems more prominent with arch linux users

Actually, my KDE 3.4.2-Qt 3.3.4-Slackware 10.2 install at work seems to be doing this, too. I'm using the vesa framebuffer. The effect is so minimal it took me a while to notice it. It looks like it is bold the first time, and then goes to normal text afterwards.

Realistically, how much of a problem is this? I find it to be barely noticeable at all.
Comment 4 tejinder 2006-04-26 07:54:01 UTC
it is annoying, it affects all the kde applications. and i also filed a bug at archlinux.org. they say that its the problem with kde, not with the package :(
Comment 5 Jaison Lee 2006-04-26 15:37:28 UTC
It's definitely not Arch Linux specific. I see the behavior at work and at home on my Slackware boxes, and they are running different versions of KDE and different versions of Qt. I'm starting to wonder if it could be a font problem.

What theme are you using? I'm using Plastik. If you are also using Plastik can you change themes and see if the behavior continues?

Comment 6 tejinder 2006-04-26 18:25:41 UTC
i tried changing the themes and fonts. the problem persists. even i tried deleting my kde configuration files and reinstall kde. still the problem is there.

AFAIK, this is a bug in qt, not kde. I remember discussing about this in the irc channel some months ago. This seems to be fixed in qt4. So if you have the patience, i recommend we wait for kde4 ;)
Comment 8 tejinder 2006-04-29 11:55:23 UTC
if its bug in qt, kindly fix it in kde 3.5.3
Comment 9 Thiago Macieira 2006-04-29 15:17:26 UTC
If it's a bug in Qt, it has to be fixed in Qt, not in KDE.
Comment 10 tejinder 2006-04-30 07:38:41 UTC
maybe in qt 3.3.7 then :P

Make sure it has been reported to Trolltech (qt-bugs@trolltech.com)
Comment 12 tejinder 2006-07-01 15:27:19 UTC
i upgraded to kde 3.5.3, the bug is still there. kindly look into it . thanx

Marking this as a dup of an older report.

Also, I have verified that this behavior is not present in Qt4 and will therefore be fixed in the next version of KDE.
