Version: 3.4.3 (using KDE 3.4.3, Gentoo) Compiler: gcc version 3.4.4 (Gentoo 3.4.4-r1, ssp-3.4.4-1.0, pie-8.7.8) OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.15-gentoo-r1 It appears that signing in to hotmail using konqueror just stopped working. It gets into some kind of endless loop cycling back between two pages. Maybe hotmail changed something to make it incompatible?
I also get this bug, but only when trying to sign in through Kopete. Going direct to www.hotmail.com in Konqueror and signing in seems to work alright Version: Kopete 0.11.1 (Using KDE 3.5.2) Konqueror - Konqueror 3.5.2 (Using KDE 3.5.2) Compiler: OS: Linux (x86) 2.6.15-gentoo-r1
I have the bug like Bonne Eggleston with both Kopete and Konqueror. I can access my hotmail account only if I delete my cookies (from hotmail.com, live.com and passport.com) each time. Version : - Konqueror 3.5.2 - Kopete 0.12 beta 2

I just found out that it works when you enter hotmail indirectly. I chose "send mail" after rightclicking on one of my friends in kopete, then Konqueror opened my mail and had prepared a new mail. afterwards I could click my way to my mailbox... Strange behaviour Actually now hotmail works totally for me. also signing in the normal way.
Nop, still doesnt work with signing in through kopete when you log on. It does allow me to enter hotmail manually now though.
Yes, it now works for me too, using 3.5.2.
But the problem persist when logging automatically in through Kopete. I suppose thats a Kopete bug though.
I filed a bug in Kopete for this issue. see Bug 129813

I don't know what the problem is. maybe a problem in the hotmail's javascript
Olivier, please explain why you marked the bug in kopete a duplicate of this bug. There used to be a bug in konqueror so that you were unable to use hotmail with konqueror. Now it's only a problem with autologin from Kopete. Why shouldn't this be filed as a seperate bug in konqueror? -Pascal
There is maybe a problem in Kopete ... or not ;-) What we did worked before. now it doesn't work anymore. Is it because a konqueror change, or an hotmail change, or a kopete change ? In all case, I don't know where the problem is exactly, so i'm unable to repair it.
It isn't a kopete bug I think as I noticed today that gaim (2.0 beta3) has the same problem.

This is a problem due to a change in the Microsoft side. I don't know what's the solution for this anyway.
i have not this pb with the version with kde 3.4.2
Still valid with Kopete 0.12.1 (Kde 3.5.4). Workaround with "send mail" to a contact works.

Anyone still seeing this in KDE 3.5.6/Kopete 0.12.4?
Another user with this problem on KDE 3.5.5 and 3.5.6 here: https://launchpad.net/kdebase/+bug/82789 Both just logging in through the website and through a link from aMSN. I don't have a hotmail account so I can't test it.
Yes, it still happens with KDE 3.5.6 and Kopete 0.12.4. Sometimes the "send mail" workaround works sometimes does not.
I confirm this is happening on Gentoo Linux with KDE 3.5.6 / Kopete 0.12.4 as well. Any ideas as to what we can try to help track down where the issues is and how we can potentially work around it? I am willing to patch/test anything proposed.

I can confirm this on dapper, edgy and feisty (I've had it like this for a very long time). I noticed that if I try to log into "http://www.hotmail.com" manually, everything works fine. However if I log in to "http://hotmail.com", I get into the same loop. I don't think this is the problem though, since msnnotifysocket.cpp writes this in the /tmp/ file that does the redirection: <meta http-equiv=Refresh content="0; url=http://www.hotmail.com"> However, the problem is very much likely to be with the form that is submited as POST just below (around line 634 in msnnotifysocket.cpp). Removing it is one quick solution, at least you get the page up and can just log in manually.

Mozilla Firefox load the page correctly, this may be a help to fix it in conqueror.
When I go to http://www.hotmail.com/ and try to log in, it doesn't work. I'm redirected to a https site, and from there the login does work. Is this related to this bug - I'm a bit confused because a lot of comments are taking about Kopete, and this is totally unrelated. Can anyone confirm this behavior?
I can confirm both behaviours and they 'appear' to be unrelated
The problem has not affected me since I signed up for 'Windows Live Mail' I think that constitutes a pretty easy work around.
When Kopete launchs Koqueror it uses a URL like http://www.hotmail.msn.com/cgi-bin/sbox?t=...&p=...&lc=...&id=...&rru=/cgi-bin/HoTMaiL that URL redirects to another URL, that redirects to another URL similar to the first one. If I copy the first URL, make Konqueror stop loading the URL, paste the URL to the location input text and press ENTER Konqueror almost always opens my Hotmail correctly. I think there must be a race condition somewhere, or an event that is being called more than once or something like that.
im kde from branch_3.5 svn release 691988 and this bug continues being valid.
What i mean is that when cliking from konqueror to open email it fails to enter in hotmail, but when running konqueror and entering in hotmail webpage, then it logins without probs.

We've completely replaced the current MSN implementation with a new MSN implementation which If you continue to experience this bug after testing the new implementation (which can be gotten from our subversion repository or with the KDE 4.2 Beta 1 release), PLEASE, open a new bug rather than reopening this bug. Thank you for your time and efforting in helping us find and fix problems in Kopete.
