Description David King 2006-04-21 01:18:25 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.2)
Installed from: RedHat RPMs

A new bug appeared around kde 3.3.1(?). The cursor icon used to change correctly, now it often does not (some events having to do with mouse entry/exit of widgets seem to be getting overlooked or dropped now). This is very important user feedback that used to track correctly, but no longer does.

The most typical problem is in resizing a window; the mouse cursor shows a double-arrow 'resize' cursor incorrectly when the mouse is actually just outside the window boundary on an underlying window. The user (naturally relating to the cursor appearance) presses the mouse button expecting to resize, and instead brings an underlying window to the top. He (me) has to undo that action and start over. This wastes my time every day. (Jeez I wish we could figure out a way to protect quality code from later, poor-quality code....).

Another instance of the same type of behavior, which is reliably reproducable (at my end, anyway), though less intrusive in its effect, is the following: simply move the mouse from outside the window, directly above the 'minimize' button at the top-right of the window, onto that button. You'll notice the cursor incorrectly shows the 'resize' icon in this case.

 Thanks for looking into this.

I can't reproduce either of the issues you mention with KDE 3.5-branch. Do you have the possibility to update to 3.5 to try that?
Comment 2 David King 2006-04-21 16:33:32 UTC
I'll pass it by our sysgroup, but I doubt we'll be upgrading right away.

Thanks for your efforts. If you hear definitively of such a bug having been
reported and fixed previously, I'd appreciate hearing about it.

Regards,

dk

I'll close this for now, since I can't reproduce it, and there's not much chance of a fix going into 3.3/3.4. But please reopen if you see the issue in 3.5

OK; I can still reliably reproduce the case at the bottom of the bug report,
though, using KDE 3.3.1-6.RHEL4 Red Hat.
