Can't get webcam working betweem kopete and MSN messenger. It seem that with some old MSN messenger version connection can succeed. But with any new version, it doesn't work. It is possible to receive webcam picture, but sending doesn't work. However, neither reception is very stable; managed to get it first time working using SVN code today.

- kopete 0.11.93
- KDE 3.5.2
- Suse 10.0 (x86_64)

What kind of info would be needed to resolve issue? Too bad, that I cannot ask other end points for much info, since thing just works for them, and they are in general not technical people...

You must not be under a NAT, or if you are, you must forward the correct port (the one in the config)

I'm almost sure I'm under a NAT, because I use a broadband (ADSL) through a modem that behaves like a router (DHCP serves the machines in the domestic NET).
If that's correct, can you show me any howto to learn how to foward ports, or, if it's not the case, can you teach how to figure out if I'm under a NAT?

MSN Webcam doesn't work if both contact are under a NAT yet.
Or you must forward the port (6891 by default)

me and my friend we have a router....
we use kopete, webcam don't work..... does we need to forward the port?

Yes, you do.
For sure.

I don't have NAT, and most of time Kopete ain't able to make connection with MSN (well, neither yahoo). With some friends connection occasionally succeeds,so it must have something to do with MSN/Yahoo IM versions.

I've tried this also so that I've turned my whole firewall down for a while, but that haven't helped. I'm not 100% sure what versions of Yahoo/MSN my friends are using, most likely newest possible.

On the other hand, in case when Kopete manages to make webcam connection, then it starts to work dog slowly; hole program freezes every now and then, and then resumes. Either webcam access isn't extremely efficient, or it has something to do with hardware (running x86_64, Athlon3200)

Please reopen bug.
When 2 MS-MSN clients connect, webcam works good. When kopete connects and kopete is behind NAT (even though the ms-msn clients were behind nat), kopete cant send/receive files/webcam.
That means that this is not a config or user error but a bug because MS-MSN client works correctly behind NAT.
