I always thought that Kopete should really display the image avatar when you hover over the respective user detail (or butterfly thing) in the bottom of the contact list (see http://giannaros.org/kpete.jpg ). So while the details can be on the right of that little pop-up, the image appears on the left.

Hi there, sorry for the bad news, but WLM has been discontinued by Microsoft, so this bug will be closed.
