Description Michael Stather 2006-04-03 12:55:18 UTC
Version: 0.11.93 (0.12 Beta 2) (using KDE 3.5.0 Level "a" , SUSE 10.0 UNSUPPORTED)
Compiler: Target: i586-suse-linux
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.13-15.8-default

Kopete doesn´t sync to my ICQ server-side contact list.
When I add a user with another client I´m asked in kopete whether I want to add him or not, but
when I delete a contact with another client it remains in kopete.
Kopete should, like all other clients, display the (icq) contacts which are on the server,
no more and no less IMHO. So I have the same contacs than in my other clients.
The question on adding should also be removed, kopete should always be "synced".
Comment 1 Michael Stather 2006-04-03 19:05:47 UTC
I just saw that when I rename a buddy with another client kopete doesn´t update it either.
Comment 2 Matt Rogers 2006-04-05 00:07:36 UTC
if you delete a contact with another client, it should also ask you if you want to add that contact back to your server side list. If it doesn't ask you, then it didn't really get deleted off your server side list.

Please file the rename problem as another bug/wishlist item. Depending on how the contact was "renamed" on the other client, Kopete might not support that yet.
Comment 3 Michael Stather 2006-04-05 00:18:09 UTC
Why can´t kopete just stay completely in sync with the server side list (or at leas have an option to do so)? Other clients do this as well without asking. This is one of the reasons for using the ICQ server-side contact list, when using multiple clients they should "share" the contact list. kopete shouldn´t go its own way here IMO!
Comment 4 Matt Rogers 2006-04-05 01:34:51 UTC
Do you get asked to add the previously deleted with another client contact back to your serverside list?
Comment 5 Michael Stather 2006-04-05 02:05:29 UTC
No, the client didn´t get deleted in kopete at all. But I deleted the contact using the official ICQ client.
Comment 6 Matt Rogers 2006-04-09 01:46:09 UTC
it's not going to be deleted, as we don't delete contacts that are not on the server side list yet. However, I am curious to know (unless you've turned it off) whether or not the dialog that asks you about adding contacts to your contact list is shown with the ICQ uin (or AIM screenname) of the contact that was deleted in the original ICQ client.
Comment 7 Michael Stather 2006-04-09 13:52:38 UTC
No it´s not shown :(
Have you thought of what I wrote above? OK it´s just my opinion but think about because every other icq clients behaves exactly the same, and kopete should be no exception.

the current way has seemed to work out best for the time being since some people's contact lists somehow get deleted and if we followed the serverside list all the time, they would have no chance of recovering their list. We'll do it correctly for KDE 4.

Due to kopete's not syncing with the server side list, requesting and granting authorization doesn't work (properly) also. It's really irritating that i have to start ICQ2go on the web and get granted authorization before I see my contact online in kopete.

This is also happening with MSN. When I delete a contact in gaim at work and I get a dialog in gaim at home asking me if I want to add it because it's not on the server list, but when I open kopete, it adds the contacts again (without even asking) and even I can see them in gaim later. I haven't been able to delete contacts in MSN due to the use of gaim, kopete and Messenger clients at different places.

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
