Version:           3.5.1 (using KDE 3.5.1, Gentoo)
Compiler:          gcc version 3.4.4 (Gentoo 3.4.4-r1, ssp-3.4.4-1.0, pie-8.7.8)
OS:                Linux

When I open Konqueror and it displays the introductory screen, the Trash icon is always shown as full. I know that it is not important to most people, but sometimes it annoys me to see the full trash icon in Konqueror and an empty trash icon in the trash kicker applet. Wouldn't you expect to have something in the trash if the icon shows it as full? The trash:/ kio also always shows the icon as full, so it's most likely connected.

I have the same problem here, and I'm using version 3.5.6 from Kubuntu's packages.  The kicker applet works flawlessly, but neither the kioslave or a desktop icon shows the trashcan_empty icon when the trashcan is empty.

Can't reproduce with debian 3.5.6

works here on kde 4.4.
