Description appsdev 2006-03-28 06:11:33 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.1)
Installed from: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux

All the following is froma user's desktop with desktop icons set to run in the konsole as root user.

I started chkrootkit from a desktop icon. The konsole asked for root access and it was given. The program finished normally.

I started rkhunter from a desktop icon and it asked for a root password but this ti e it did not. The program just continued as if it already had root access.

I opened a konsole and began the fc5 YUM update process. If I do not use sudo or I do not use su then I get some error messages. This time the YUM update process started automatically without me entering the root password.

It seems that once I entered the root password in one konsole something kept it and ran everything after as root.

Sounds like a Fedora feature. Don't you see a shield in your system tray when/when not you entered the root password and it's cached?
