I can't seem to get rid of the global identity toolbar - it keeps on reappearing when reloading the application!

It works fine here.

What is the content of your ~/.kde/share/config/kopeterc for the
[EditGlobalIdentityBar Settings] group ?

What distribution are you using ?
Is there something in /opt/kde/share/config/kopeterc  (or whereever your kopete is installed)

Strange, works for me again, after updating.  Not sure where the problem came from, maybe from all those kernel panics i had and kopete not being able to save it's settings :).
