Description Vernon Mauery 2006-03-17 22:26:37 UTC
Version: 3.4.2 (using KDE 3.4.3, Kubuntu Package 4:3.4.3-0ubuntu2 )
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.13

When I am viewing the calendar, I would like it to always keep the same view. I have it set so it shows me two months in the mini calendar and then a full week (or sometimes work week) in the big frame. Occasionally, I will click on another day in to mini calendar, to see what is going on in that week. But the calendar then changes views to show only that day. If I wanted to see only the day view, I would have clicked on the day view icon at the top. I feel that this is broken behavior (and have had confirmation that this is bad behavior from another korganizer user).

Korganizer should not change views unless you specifically tell it to. Here is how I think the behavior should be:

1. clicking on a day in the day view should switch to that day (and keep the day view -- this is actually the current behavior)
2. clicking on a day in the work week view should switch weeks to the week that contains that day (the same behavior as if you select the work days from that week in mini calendar)
3. clicking on a day in the week view should swich weeks to the week that contains that day (the same behavior as if you select the entire week from the mini calendar)
4. clicking on a day in the full month view should change to that month (if it is the current month, do nothing)

In my opinion it's not broken, it allows you to select any time frame besides the predefined ones (day, week, work week, 3 days, etc.).

I don't feel like fixing it, do you Reinhold?

The report certainly is valid. On the other hand, given the current design
it's not so easy to implement it so that it's not confusing...

Cheers,
Reinhold

Reassigning all KOrganizer bug reports and wishes to the newly created
korganizer-devel mailing list.

You can click the week number in the mini-calendar.

That will select the week you want.

Does that solve your problem ?

Fixing this bug would mean removing a nice feature: the ability to choose a custom selection of dates.

Don't think of day/work/week as different views, they are the same view, agenda. The new version of korganizer (4.6) makes this very clear, day/work/week are range controls, that never remove you from the current view ( previously, if you were in timespent view, and clicked on the "day icon", you would be sent to agenda view, now, you continue in timespent, but only see one day.

If you want to just see what's going on in other weeks, you can click the week numbers in the mini-calendar. That wont change the view either.
