Description Scott Couston 2006-03-14 10:32:33 UTC
Version: unknown (using KDE 3.4.2 Level "b" , SUSE 10.0)
Compiler: Target: i586-suse-linux
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.13-15.8-smp

kontack already running in system tray, open application, select Configure Kmail, load Default Profile, deselect Automatically request disposition Notifications - Crash. Not able to duplicate and regret not able to offer any suggestion. Backtrace follows. Apologies as to bug not re-producable - however submitted in hope that 'instability' may be indicated in backtrace.

Thanks for reporting Scott. Nevertheless, even the backtrace doesn't show much. So I suggest that we keep this bug open for 30 days, and if you or somebody else comes across the same thing, please report it here. Otherwise, we can close it.
Comment 2 Scott Couston 2006-04-10 00:32:14 UTC
I have examined other bugs and this relates to favourite bug Titled "Sig11" and this is backtrace before "Sig11 crash"....Am trying very hard to re-producs - have a fealing it has to do with wallet - not Kotact - Let you know
Comment 3 Scott Couston 2006-04-16 04:54:41 UTC
I have further been able to track the SIG11 bug for which seems to be trouble some. In every case that I get a SIG11 crash the Wallet appears to be closed for some reason before Kontact is closed. More testing to do - Now the question for me to test IS
Does the SIG 11 crash force the closure of the wallet or is the wallet closed before Kontact is hence the crash.

New Backtrace and further testing to do.

Screen Display Showing Kontact Open and Wallet not present in System Tray
Comment 5 Scott Couston 2006-04-18 03:15:00 UTC
After a SIG11 crash, the wallet closes. You are then free to open Kontact without the wallet being open and perform normal activities. I think the bug report is misleading. I think the error is actually the wallet crashing on closing Kontact NOT Kontact crashing. On the attached image you can see that I have Kontact open, however the wallet is not present in the system tray after SIG11 crash. Kontact seems not to quit after SIG11 crash and can be used to transfer POP3 email without the wallet being open or running.

see attached.
Comment 6 Ismail Onur Filiz 2006-04-22 07:18:42 UTC
Looks like you are making some progress, thanks. It would be great if you come at a point where it is reproducible every time, and describe the ways to do that to us.
Comment 7 Scott Couston 2006-04-22 11:08:33 UTC
I have upgraded to K.D.E V 3.5.2 - and Dam!!!!!!!!!! would you know it I have not encountered a SIG11 crash since so error may be fixed in new librarys. It is interesting to note that once Kontact is open and wallet is open you can quit wallet and Kontact will still open and close and collect mail - hence question - what effect does that access control in wallet have on Kontact when wallet is not running in this situation. After opening Kontact and supplying Wallet with password you can close wallet and there seems no functional change to Kontact?
Comment 8 Ismail Onur Filiz 2006-04-23 05:52:37 UTC
So could you close this bug after a few days of testing, since your crashes are gone?
Comment 9 Scott Couston 2006-04-24 11:21:59 UTC
Dam sorry got a SIG11 crash after upgrade and attempts to force crash...getting closser to being able to faithfully re-produce SIG11 crash...will advise details soon....dependance on wallet seems definate contributions.

Cheers Scott
Comment 10 Scott Couston 2006-04-27 01:04:36 UTC
Getting Sig11 crashes on other applications with new V3.5.2. Backup causing SIG11 also copy of +10GIG file over SMB drive also causing SIG11 crash. Inference of wallet and Kontact no longer valid. New backtrace for other applications to follow
Comment 11 Scott Couston 2006-04-30 20:00:03 UTC
Close SIG11 bug without being able to reproduce error. Suspect that with so many different applications crashing on SIG11 error that reproduction is not possible as closing thought that some internal process occurs at random and at the same time as user application
Comment 12 Philip Rodrigues 2006-09-19 21:22:57 UTC
I take the last comment to mean that the bug is gone, so closing

BTW, Signal 11 is a term for a wide class of bugs - probably the vast majority of crashes you'll see are sig11. So one sig 11 bug is not necessarily related to another.
Comment 13 Scott Couston 2006-09-20 00:43:47 UTC
O.K I now understand a little more of the error responses - my thanks.

So basically in ANY app falls over if it cannot supply specific error SIG11 is produced.

In my old world we would call it simply "system Error 0" and the library being utilised at the time was dumped. I shall ignore SIG11...thanks for the heads up!
