Version: 3.6 (using KDE KDE 3.5.1) Installed from: Gentoo Packages Compiler: gcc version 3.4.4 (Gentoo 3.4.4-r1, ssp-3.4.4-1.0, pie-8.7.8) OS: Linux knotes system tray icon doesn't properly appear in the system tray but instead on the desktop when the window manager for KDE is changed to Metacity. All the other system tray icons associated with KDE are appearing properly in the system tray this is just knotes (for instance amarok, kmix, klipper, organizer, kwallet...). When I can find the system tray icon somewhere on the desktop all the features of the icon work as expected.

Can anybody reproduce this bug ?
This bug still exists in KDE 3.5.6 for various KDE system tray icons, I have had the korganizer icon show up over the KDE menu when metacity was used recently. I am not worried about this personally anymore because the application which required Metacity has corrected its window management interfaces so that it works on kwin. For some reason when the window manager changes the management of tray icons seem to change dramatically. The pidgin icon also seems to float off at times, it isn't consistent though. This is on Gentoo, Ubuntu, and Red Hat Enterprise 5. All have displayed the same behavior
Do you know of any KDE application that does not present this behaviour, so I may compare both implementations.
I have never seen the battery meter roam off the task list. Usually the wallet stays but I think once I saw that off the system tray. Also I think the clipboard applet has always been on the tray. I know that the kmix applet, kget, korganizer, knotes, and the kontact icons have all floated out on the desktop at times. Understand I will likely be slow if you need additional updates, I am extremely busy at work these last few weeks so only get to my personal inbox about once a week.
This bug was a kdesktop/kicker bug, it has been fixed on 3.5.9/3.5.10 (if I remember correctly).
