Description Ben Aceler 2006-02-21 10:41:51 UTC
Version: 0.12 alpha (using KDE KDE 3.5.1)
Installed from: Unspecified

When talking using IRC, I would like to use simple theme without userpics and so on - like any IRC client like x-chat or kirc. When talking using ICQ or Jabber, I would like to use more interesting theme...
So, it will be very useful, if I will have an ability to change kopete themes for different protocols.
Maybe even different users.
Comment 1 Conrad Hoffmann 2006-02-22 12:10:46 UTC
now that kopetes default theme is rather not simple, i think this would be a good idea. but the config should not become too complicated. what would you think of "use theme xyz if chat has more then x people in chat"?
Comment 2 Alexandre Pereira 2006-02-22 12:44:18 UTC
if you want to do this right, do it contact based.

the same way that notifications can be set, but then can be changed on a contact properties or group properties, someone set the default style, but then could change a specific style in a contact properties window.

reason :
girlfriend would have a style full of hearts backgrounds and etc
opensource friends would have a pengiun background and that style of styles :)

plus another reason .... msn (from microsoft ) does it this way, i mean , it stores the theme used for each contact

it should be just adding a property to the contact : style ( use that style , if not available , or not set , use global default set style )
Comment 3 Ben Aceler 2006-02-22 12:57:27 UTC
So, we have two configs: default style for protocol and personal style for user contact.
I think, that using different styles for talking tet-a-tet and for several users conversation is a good idea, but this can be realized by style itself (just add this possibility to style template).
Very good :).

#2 sounds actually pretty cool to me...
but it doesnt work when joining an irc channel that is not on our contact list...
do you maybe have an additional idea for that case, Iori?
Comment 5 Alexandre Pereira 2006-02-22 19:36:57 UTC
well , there is the solution of adding the channel to the contact list ( when not in the contact list , it uses the default style , but when added to the contact list and the property changed , it uses that style ), being this a normal and expected behaviour...

if not , having the irc account with a property of the style to use.

my important note : its not based on protocol : its not all irc accounts use this style !
more like : this irc network account use this style.

reason :
freenode ... background full of pengiuns and style hacker

but there are people that use another irc networks ( usually of their country )... and a pengiun and hacker style would not be so cool.

so , in the account pref ( be it irc or msn ... ) :

style to use :
- default style
- hacker style
- girly style
- lots of space waste style
- really very minimal style

this would be very very nice ... but of course , the dev's may find it a configuration and feature overkill...

I agree. Not protocols - account based. About IRC channels... I think it is not nesessary, if it will be too difficult.
First of all - different themes for accounts, and then - for users/channels.

that sounds sensible. if I used kopete for irc there's no way I'd want
my usual style... I'd probably want the hacker one. heck, maybe once
this feature is in I should try adding an irc account to kopete. :)

I would also like to see the ability to change the style per-account (or per-contact if that worked with an IRC channel that was added as a contact).

BTW, these other bugs seem to be similar/duplicates: bug#125085, bug#147111.
