Description Clement Raievsky 2006-02-16 15:25:20 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.1)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS: Linux

Hi,

When in single click selection and tree view mode it is common to select a file by clicking on the raw of this file and specificaly not on the filename in order not to launch the associated application. However when doing multiple selection by pressing Ctrl when clicking, not clicking on the filename cause the current multiple selection to reset.

Expected Behavior : Ctrl+click should toggle selection when clicking on the raw (and not on filename) of a file in tree view not reset the current multiple selection.

Thank for your great job !!

Clément.

Cannot reproduce (3.5.1)
Comment 2 Clement Raievsky 2006-02-16 16:09:59 UTC
are you in tree view mode ?

This is still present in kde 3.5.4 and is very problematic if:
1. the mouse is in single-click mode,
2. you want to select multiple files.

You can't select the first file by clicking directrly on the filename, so you have to click somewhere beside it. Now you can ctrl+click to select more files. But only if you click on the file name, anywhere else will reset the selection.
Comment 4 Philip Rodrigues 2006-09-25 15:30:15 UTC
Seems to work correctly with recent SVN. Can you try 3.5.5 when it comes out?
Comment 5 anonymous 2006-11-10 22:07:41 UTC
I've upgraded to Kubuntu 6.10 with KDE 3.5.5 and it's still there, that is you can't "ctrl-select" multiple files without clicking directly on the file name. It works with "shift-select" though.

I have encountered this on both machines I installed Kubuntu 6.10(32 bit) on (different hardware in each case). Both are using Logitech mice FWIW (one wireless LX7 and the other wired B69). Anyone know a fix?
Comment 7 IgnorantGuru 2006-11-11 23:31:26 UTC
Also, it occasionally will work but most of the time not. Almost never works in 'detailed list view'. Ctrl-click sometimes works in icon view, and seems to work in multicolumn view. Can't select multiple files with ctrl-click - a ctrl-click acts as a click.

Comment 8 IgnorantGuru 2006-11-11 23:43:06 UTC
Followup & Workaround - just discovered something. It appears that if I control-click directly on the filename this bug does not appear. (I'm used to clicking to the right of the filenames so I didn't notice this.) Thus far I have not seen it do it when clicking on the name. This may also explain why the bug is most noticable in detailed list view (in icon view you have to click on the filename/icon).

Comment 9 Martin Fitzpatrick 2007-01-08 01:08:04 UTC
Confirmed KDE 3.5.5 / Kubuntu 6.10. Process used for reproducing as follows:

Open home folder, change View->View Mode to "List View".
In the list that appears, open some folder branches to get a list of files.
Press Ctrl and click on the file *details* (e.g. size, date - not the filename).
Selection will be of a single file only, rather than multiple files as Ctrl should do.
Clicking Ctrl and then filename produces expected behaviour.
Clicking Shift and then file details also produces expected behaviour.

Can someone else attempt to test using instructions above?
Comment 10 Martin Fitzpatrick 2007-01-08 01:17:11 UTC
When present this bug also affects Tree View, List View, Detailed List View, Text View.
Comment 11 Mike Williams 2007-01-08 01:25:23 UTC
Could not reproduce. Tested with slackware 11, gcc 3.4.6, kde 3.5.5. Interestingly, everyone who has specified a distro, has said debian or kubuntu (debian based).

Also, the instructions above mean "Tree View" instead of "List View".
Comment 12 Philip Rodrigues 2007-01-08 19:21:41 UTC
FWIW, I still can't reproduce this with svn r620k on FreeBSD
Comment 13 Jonas Vejlin 2009-04-05 08:18:11 UTC
do you still have this problem in konq 4?
Comment 14 FiNeX 2009-08-04 12:01:08 UTC
Someone is still able to reproduce on KDE 4? (konqueror/dolphin)
