Description Mark 2006-02-14 02:45:24 UTC
Version: 0.12-SVN (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
Compiler: gcc 3.3.4
OS: Linux

There are two users on my contact list using Adium on OS X. I can only view the generic Kopete user icon for either of them. When using the official MSN client their icons show up fine.
Comment 1 Matt Rogers 2006-02-19 05:42:58 UTC
Can you see contact icons from contacts who use gaim 1.5?
Comment 2 Mark 2006-02-19 12:55:18 UTC
I have a friend who uses gaim, and I can see his icon. I'm not certain it is 1.5 though.
Comment 3 Mark 2006-02-20 20:47:06 UTC
Yes, it is 1.5.0, and I can see his icons just fine.
Comment 4 Edward Ando 2006-05-26 11:10:42 UTC
I have Kopete 3.5.2. I have 2 users on MSN using Adium and
I cannot see their pictures. My friend with Kopete 3.4.2
can see these pictures.

Can you reproduce with Kopete 0.12 ?
Can you also report the bug to the adium team ?
Comment 7 Thanos Kyritsis 2006-06-26 19:05:44 UTC
Yes, it's reproducable in Kopete 0.12 as well.

However, I don't know what's the gain from reporting it to Adium developers. Their default policy is to redirect such kind of bugs (engine bugs) to Gaim developers since Adium is libgaim based.

But here is the funny part. MS MSN can display Adium buddy icons. Gaim can also display Adium buddy icons. Kopete can display MS MSN and Gaim buddy icons, but cannot display Adium. It seems complicated as to where this bug finally belongs :-/ Any new suggestions or the idea of reporting this to Adium remains the same ?

I have a feeling that MSN, Gaim and Kopete comply with whatever the MSN protocol defines for transmitting a buddy icon (such as the image size or something like that). Perhaps Adium does not, so Kopete refuses to display it whereas the other client accept to bend the protocol rules a little bit in order to display it. I don't know, this is just a wild guess (that came to me if I remember correct by browsing similar bugs in Kopete bugzilla when I first filled in this bug).

I have no problems seing Adium-buddy icons.
Comment 9 Fernando Coronel 2006-09-05 14:50:43 UTC
I'm having the same problem.
I updated Kopete within the kde 3.5.2 and the display pictures from msn adium users desapear.

I finally can confirm this bug (I did all possible tests and it's only seeing Adium icons within kopete which causes problems)

kopete [version bundled with ubuntu gutsy 7.10] can't get avatar from emesene (http://emesene.org) nor some type of custom emoticons (the ones you can't "steal" with WLM, i don't know what distinguish this type of emoticon from others..) and since it's the only client with this problem i guess it's a kopete fault (?)
Comment 13 Matt Rogers 2008-11-15 06:09:08 UTC
We've completely replaced the current MSN implementation with a new MSN implementation which If you continue to experience this bug after testing the new implementation (which can be gotten from our subversion repository or with the KDE 4.2 Beta 1 release), PLEASE, open a new bug rather than reopening this bug. Thank you for your time and efforting in helping us find and fix problems in Kopete.
