Description Dima Ryazanov 2006-02-02 19:30:07 UTC
Version: 1.9.1 (using KDE KDE 3.5.1)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc version 4.0.2 (Gentoo 4.0.2-r3, pie-8.7.8)
OS: Linux

When I click the KMail system tray icon, it always disappears for a fraction of a second, then comes back... about 90% of the time. I can't find a way to reproduce it, but here are some things I noticed:

1) It happens both in a stand-alone KMail, and in KMail embedded in Kontact.
2) Usually, I have Kontact running on another desktop, so clicking the icon switches to it. But if I keep clicking the icon when on the same desktop, it disappears, too (after 2-20 clicks).
3) Disabling the system tray icon in the settings and enabling it again brings the icon back.
4) Restarting kicker doesn't bring back the icon.

Ok, maybe my first sentence was confusing: I meant, the icon comes back only 90% of the time. Too often, I click it, and it simply disappears.

Does no one else ever run into this problem?

Still happens with KMail 1.9.4.

This doesn't happen with Akregator's icon.

Also, I noticed that KMail's icon animates the window when hiding - as if it is minimized. But Akregator displays and hides the window instantly. Could Akregator's way be used to solve the problem? (Also, it would be more consistent...)

Still the case in Kmail 1.9.7.

It happens in Fluxbox, too, not just with KDE's kicker.

I can reproduce with kmail from KDE 4.3.1

Still valid in 4.7 ? We rewrote it.
So I think it's ok now.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2.

We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
