Description Estaxe 2006-01-15 23:12:36 UTC
Version: 3.4.2 (using KDE 3.4.2, Mandrake Linux Cooker i586 - Cooker)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.1 (Mandrake Linux 9.2 3.3.1-2mdk)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.11-oci11.mdk

print jobs are not visible (empty) in printjobs menu, but printer keeps putting out an old printjob and konqueror even turns the printer on, when I turn it off. Turning the power off doesn't help in erasing printer memory, nor does restarting the computer. How do I remove this print queue wihtout reinstalling the printer?

What printing system?

Dear Mr. Tibirna,

The answer to your question concerning the printing system is CUPS.

Kind regards,

the number of processes as visible in Krellm gradually
triple when I disconnect the printer, not giving cups a chance to send  a
printing signal. the loop still persists and i am unable to print anything
else.

Also printmanger (print/-Konqueror) doesn't work after opening it and is very
slow in loading + none of the menubuttons work.

I hope this is of help in solving the problem, as I haven't been able to print
for more than a week now.

Kind regards,

Estelle Eestermans

Your bug report puzzles me. I guess this is a case of very badly screwed
installation: driver mismatch, network misconfiguration etc. It is also an
unique report, nobody else seems to have encountered such behavior yet.

I'm not at all sure I will be able to help but anyways, please give me answers
to the following:

- how is the printer connected to the computer?
- do you know what drivers are used by mandrake for your printer? (i.e. is it
HPIJS or HPLIP?) And by the way, did you do anything special to configure
that printer?
- the job that gets repeated is printed correctly?
- can you try to create a new printer queue (no need to delete the current
one) and see if the behavior is reproduced?

For now, that's it. I will ask more perhaps once I have your answers.

Thanks

No response from reporter since nearly a year...

Closing bug as INVALID.

Dear, Kurt,

System has crashed and needs to be completely rebuild. I'm now working on a
different platform, until I have good new system configured.

So problem is not solved and I have no solution it yet. How can I print
locally and not via network in KDE? I have tried to do this offline but then
KDE refuses to print.

Kind regards,

Estelle Eestermans

Estelle,

I guess this means we've to wait until your system is re-built? Heh, possibly you'll get handed over a new shiny system that prints perfectly out of the box... :-)

In any case, you are invited to mail the list "<kde-print@kde.org> (Users and developers of KDEPrint)" for help with your system if the problem is KDEPrint related. No need to open a bug report initially.

If the problem is more low level ("CUPS", the low level print system, on which KDEPrint bases itself, does not work properly), it's probably better to ask for help on one of the forums here:

  * http://forums.freestandards.org/list.php?19
  * http://www.cups.org/newsgroups.php?gcups.general

I'm hanging out there as well quite frequently. Just tell us what Linux version you run, and what the name of your printer model is and we surely can help you.

Cheers,
good luck,
Kurt
