Description Leon Freitag 2005-12-22 23:40:55 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: gcc 3.3.5 20050117 prerelease (Suse 9.3)
OS: Linux

After booting the system and logging into a KDE session, it doesn't matter whether a new or previously saved session, some tray icons (in 99% of the cases it's KNemo and kxkb) don't reappear in the system tray. kxkb does however work in the background - keyboard switching with Ctrl-Alt-K works, and kcontrol shows that KNemo service is running in the background.
Restarting kxkb or knemo service or restarting X without reboot makes the icons appear, but a reboot makes the icons disappear again.
The problem doesn't occur when Composite extension and kompmgr is disabled.

sorry, but COMPOSITE and kcompmgr are, in the KDE3 lifespan, beta at best. there are many such artifacts, and it also changes from card/driver combo to card/driver combo. not only is this not a bug in kicker, but it's not really a supported combination. more of an experimental coolio thing.

thank you for reporting all the same.

in the good news side of life, a new MUCH improved comp mgr was committed to cvs a few days ago for kde4 =)

It seems to me it wouldn't be hard to fix this bug. I think it would be a worthwhile thing to do because this effectively makes composite useless for laptops of any kind, despite all the work kde devs have put into kompmgr.
