Description Björn Ruberg 2005-12-02 22:28:31 UTC
Version: 0.4 (using KDE KDE 3.5.0)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
Compiler: gcc-3.4.4
OS: Linux

I tried out the new edutainment app keography from the kdeedu-3.5.0 package.
And when I looked at the card of Poland (which is twice times in the list, but
that is only a cosmetic bug), there where some mistakes in the naming of some
regions.
For example, one region was called "West Virgina", another one was called
"Niederlande", what is the German name for the Netherlands and another one was
called "Niedersachsen", what is a region in west Germany.
I'm not Polish, but I'm quite sure, that this names are not right ones.
My girlfriend from Poland is quite sure, that there is no region named "Pomerania" or "Warmia and Masuria" either.

Maybe this is related to the language I use. I have merge kde-i18n with
LINGUAS="de".
Funny bug, but I think it should be fixed. I use Gentoo by the way, but the devs from here said that I put it in here. I have encountered it on two different systems.

Err, you should not put 3 bugs into the same bug, that makes things a lot more difficult to follow, please, next time open as many bugs as different comments you have.

First, for the "entries appear repeated bug", can you please do
find -iname poland.kgm
while beign located at /

About the second thing, it seems that you are speaking about a translation bug? i am not sure to understand correctly, but if it is, can you please open a bug against the i18n product, de component

About regions you should tell your girlfriend either to relearn the political divisions of her country or to go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voivodships_of_Poland and fix it ;-)

Erm, no. There's no such thing like "West Virginia" in Poland or anywhere in Europe. ;p. The Netherlands is a separate country and Niedersachsen has already been explained. I can't see how is this a translation bug. Sounds more like someone needs a decent map to create his own.

The fact that you can not see it as a translation bug does not mean it is not, it only means you have no idea of how kde programs work, i can ensure you that there is no "West Virginia" or "Niedersachsen" in the Poland map, you can check it at
http://websvn.kde.org/branches/KDE/3.5/kdeedu/kgeography/data/poland.kgm?rev=438982&view=markup

So it is a translation bug, don't you think?

Closing the bug as it's not a kgeography bug as i said, if you still feel otherwise please reopen and give the reason you think kgeography is at fault. And remember there is an i18n component where you can report bugs on translations.
