Description Martin Ellis 2005-11-21 15:25:21 UTC
Version: 3.5 svn 21/11/2005 (using KDE KDE 3.5.0)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources

I am using the default Namespaces for a D-IMAP account.
So, in the account dialog, Namespaces->Personal reads "Empty"

When I try to create a folder in the account, and hit Ctrl-L
to synchronise, I get this error:

  Error while uploading folder
Could not make the folder test on the server.

This could be because you do not have permission to do this,
or because the folder is already present on the server; the
error message from the server communication is here:

  Could Not Create Folder
An attempt to create the requested folder failed.

  Details of the request:
  URL: (unknown)
Date and time: Monday 21 November 2005 14:17
  Additional information: imap://<my-account>@<my-server>:143.test/
  Possible causes:
Your access permissions may be inadequate to perform the requested
    operation on this resource.
The location where the folder was to be created may not exist.
A protocol error or incompatibility may have occurred.
  Possible solutions:
    Retry the request.
Check your access permissions on this resource.

Note that it's trying to create:
imap://<my-account>@<my-server>:143.test/
and not
imap://<my-account>@<my-server>:143/test/

I've worked around it, by:
Settings->Configure KMail
Accounts (Receiving tab)
Select the relevant account
Click Modify
Click the Pen and paper icon next to the Personal Namespace
Press space
Click the red 'delete' cross
Click OK
Click OK

What type of imap server is this?

"* OK cyrus1 Cyrus IMAP4 v2.2.10 server ready"

It's a cyrus server. I don't know much about it. It's not mine.

I also am getting this error and it's annoying when you want to poll the imap-server every minute.

I am using disconnected imap with an exchange-server (I think 2003: kmail reports it as imap v2 I believe). I suppose I odn't have access to create folder or that the folders already exist. Here is how I created the situation:

#I think I don't have access to create folders

I enabled groupware and the accompanying imap-folders with the English language. I let the folders be created. The folders are on the server already and can be used.

I disabled groupware and reenabled it with the Dutch language. I get errors that the folders can't be created. What also happens is that the icons for "tasks", "contacts", ... appear twice (The English ones are translated to Ducth -- I use the Belgian(Dutch) local).

Disabling groupware didn't help. I switched back to the groupware with the English language. I'm still getting the error.

thanks and greetings,

Michel

Yes, I've built from the 3.5 branch and it appears to work now.

Nice to see it's ready for 3.5.1. Thanks.

I'm using 3.5.5 with Cyrus IMAP and still having this issue. It appears the namespace of the server does not allow folders to be created off of "INBOX" and Kolab resource does not allow specifying where the folders are created.

Reopening because of comment #6.

Hi! I've had the exact same issue with MS Exchange IMAP server. Enabled kmail groupware, added resources and after reloading I was getting this error (Could Not Create Folder) first for Contacts and then for Journal.
After trying couple of things I've checked the kmailrc file and found that the ImapPath property was set to null for both Contacts and Journal. After changing it to /Contacts/ and /Journal/ respectively everything seems to work ok.
BTW, I'm on Ubuntu 6.10 with KDE 3.5.5 default installation.
Just thought it might help some of you.

Michael

I get this on kde 4.2.2. (or a related bug)

If I create a mailbox under INBOX on a Scalix server, the server moans. I can create folders anywhere else, but not under INBOX.

I cannot create INBOX/Action
I can create Action

I'm happy with that.

HOWEVER, now every time I send and receive kmail moans that it cannot continue with INBOX/Action (continue or cancel.) Cancel crashes kmail, and continue means it'll happen again on send/receive.

I can't delete INBOX/Action in kmail either: it's back when I send/receive.

I've tried deleting the account, and re-creating it -- but it's back.

How do I get rid of it ??? Both the mailbox, and the attempt to create it?

I've grep-ed for 'Action' in .kde/share/.../kmail/... and all subfolders. If I quit kmail, and delete .INBOX.directory/Action and .INBOX.directory/.Action.* it keeps coming back.

As I already mentioned a duplicate bug, there are two possible namespace configurations for imap servers. They either put subfolders next to the inbox as siblings - in this case everything is fine for akonadi. Or they use the below inbox paradigm and every folder is below the inbox. In the second case the akonadi connector has a problem prefixing "INBOX." with every "select". For cyrus this can be changed by 'altnamespace'.

I hope to see this bug fixed really soon, as I've had to switch to Thunderbird to read my email ;-)

Six years, and still called "New". I gave up on KDEPim years ago, and am removing myself from the CC list.
Comment 16 Sandro Knauß 2014-12-13 13:25:25 UTC
This bug reports only mentioned version with kmail versions, that do not use akonadi. So is this still an issue for kmail > 4.10?

Hello! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this version of Kmail has been unmaintained for many years so I am closing this bug. Please try using the latest version of Kmail to see if your issue persists. If it does, please submit a new bug in "kmail2". Thank you!
