Description Jeffery Tincher 2005-11-11 20:47:39 UTC
Version: 3.4.2 Level "b" (using KDE 3.4.2 Level "b" , SUSE 10.0)
Compiler: Target: i586-suse-linux
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.13-15-default

KWrite Handbook (KDE Help Center) needs to be updated to reflect current KWrite interface. For example

KDE Help Center -> KWrite Handbook -> Table of Contents -> Section 4. Configure KWrite contains,

4. Configure KWrite

  Colors
  Fonts
  Indent
  Edit
  Spelling

And it's missing "Choose Editor" menu option where either of QT default editor, embedded advanced editor, or embedded VIM editor may be selected as KWrite editor. Furthermore, Fonts can only be changed when an editor other than default QT based editor are selected, so documentation needs to reflect that as well.

The "Qt editor" is however a feature of the KDevelop module, unlike what the name suggests. Perhaps a hint for users needing Bidi-support is needed (as very few will install KDevelopjust to find the editor).

Have a nice day!

What do you mean, Nicolas? In KWrite Settings menu there is a Choose Editor option where the user can choose the Qt editor as default text editing component. The bug reporter, Reza, stresses here that this is not explained in the current doc.

SVN commit 491627 by annma:

improve the handbook. Not totally finished as some explanations are missing.
Anders if you could go through it and fill in the blanks then copy/paste for Kate that would be quite great

And I want to stress that the "Qt editor" is in KDevelop. It is not an evident
place for an editor of that name but it is the only correct Bidi editor of
the whole KDE (as KEdit is not so good and additionally not a text editor
component).

See the discussion "BIDI editor KPart" on kde-i18n-doc on 2005-12-01:
http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-i18n-doc&m=113346682726820&w=2

http://lists.kde.org/?t=113346986700008&r=1&w=2

If a user do not install the corresponding code of KDevelop, the "Qt editor"
option will not be available as text editor component.

And as my KDE3.5.x is only made of kdelibs, kdebase, (parts of) kdesdk and
kdegraphics, my KWrite shows only Kate as option.

Have a nice day!

ok, i did not know that, i thought it came with Qt. Adding it that fact in the doc!

SVN commit 491749 by alund:

Fill in blanks left by Annma, fix the fonts & colors preferences section and the command line options section
