Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.2) Installed from: Fedora RPMs OS: Linux Using EITHER METHOD, Clicking on Message - in top of screen menu bar highlighting message - clicking on reply - reply Sometimes the full message is quoted and sometimes only a random line. Double clicking on the message, will bring up the Full message and then clicking on "Message - reply" does always seem to quote the full message.
KMail quotes everything, unless you have something selected. If you do, it'll quote only that.

(I am quoting your entire reply just in case you need it. --- otherwise, please excuse.) Two things. As you would know, I just now clicked on Message - reply on 5 eMails that I just got, and the message was fully quoted each time. Then I went back and double-clicked on the message - and clicked reply - reply and that worked perfectly on all 5 eMail messages. So, you know the feeling,,,, you tell someone that something is wrong, they tell you to prove it..... and everything is working fine. So........ I brought up the 6th eMail that I was going to answer-------and clicked on the little envelope on top menu bar that says "reply" ........... and, instead of quoting the entire message, it just quoted On Sunday 06 November 2005 12:30, you wrote: > marc.vandevelde5@telenet.be and NOTHING else. It you need anything else...... just yelp.

Please don't reply by email. Use the web interface. In any event, I've never seen the bug you describe, and I've been using KMail for the past 5 years.

You must excuse me because I am not too familiar with just how Bug Reporting should be done. Hereafter, I will use the Web interface. Just one last comment. I clicked the reply envelope icon to send this eMail and as you see, it worked fine....... but 4 or 5 or 6 etc messages down the line, kmail will behave as I have said.... just quoting some random lines. It is definitely some intermittent bug. You need not reply to this eMail, -- just wanted to apologize if I didn't properly observe bug reporting etiquette.
I am also seeing this bug. Sometimes only the first few lines of an original messages is quoted, but most often the entire message is quoted correctly. I think both possibilities can occur from the same original message. I always use the right click context menu to select Reply, and I never select any text in the original message. OK Gentlemen...I think I have a more positive answer... I hope, I hope. When I first reported this bug, I was using FC4, I am now using FC5, and kmail 1.9.3 using KDE 3.5.3-04.fc5 and the bug is still there. I have not posted again since my original because I am well away that the programmer tracking this can't do anything if he cannot duplicate the bug himself. (He cannot fix anything that is working correctly for him.) I MAY have finally stumbled on to the reproducible method. Here's how. I bring up my kmail, and get the normal screen with the Inbox messages showing in the top pane, and the message contents showing in the bottom pane. Then, I simply highlight one of the messages in the top window. Then, In the bottom window, I left click on the sender's eMail address, and choose "add to addressbook". After prompted with "address entered in addressbook", I bring up the addressbook, and edit the entry. When I return to the main kmail screen, and 'click' the "reply" envelope at the top of the screen...... only 1 or 2 lines or so of the original message are quoted in the reply screen. Recap: Just highlight a message in top window of kmail. In bottom window, Left click on sender's eMail address and click on "add to addressbook". Edit the entry in the addressbook. Return to kmail main screen, and just 'click' on the reply envelope at top of screen, and only 1 or 2 lines of original message will be quoted. This seems to be completely reproducible.....Hope you guys can find it too.
I also get this bug once in a while, but for me the prescription in Comment #7 doesn't seem to work to produce the buggy behaviour. Just a note: I have to press the right mouse button to add to the addressbook, not the left button. Debian Sid (as of today) KDE 3.5.3 (with KMail 1.9.3) Best regards, TMS
Wouldn't you know.... Yesterday, the bug showed up 10x out of 10 tries. Today, the first 3x I tried it... no bug. Everything worked perfectly. Then, on the 4th time, .... I highlighted (only) a message in the top pane.... brought up my editor (kwrite), and edited some text file on my computer. Saved the file, went back to kmail, ..clicked on the reply envelope top of page, and only one line was quoted in the reply screen. I guess intermittent is the correct word. (and as you see... it's not just happening with the addressbook.) Thanks for pointing out the error in right/left button. But, you forgot to mention that I had also misspelled 'aware' as 'away'. I suppose all this only shows that it is hard to drink and type at the same time. (I simply can't understand it... I never make misteaks. Will probably have to give up typing.) Good luck on tracking down this damn elusive little bug. If I ever get any more info... I will certainly communicate same to the kmail gods.
I also get this intermittent bug in Evolution. So it could be that the issue is not related specifically to KDE. I use KMail and Evolution under the GNOME desktop manager in Ubuntu 7.10. Thought this might be important for people to know.
