Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.92) Installed from: Unlisted Binary Package The printing dialog in KDE is too complex. Please, make it more understandable for 'normal' people. Examples: * the two icons next to the printers list (toggle, add) are totally unintuitive * range option in Pages selection: there should be two spin buttons, one for upper limit one for bottom * billing information and job priority in Advanced options and Additional tags tab: I would say this are Hardcore options :)
Please *don't* implement suggestion #2. If I want to print pages 1 and 3, I can't do so with two spinboxes.
IMHO the word Range means everything between one value and the second. In that case spinboxes are ideal. What you are talking about is another thing. To be honest I didn't know I could print e.g. pages 1,4 and 7 at once because I never needed it. Maybe a short text under the textbox explaining the function could help. (I know it can be found under '?- What's this' though).
I will try a (larger than what required here) redesign in the following months. Notably, "Range" will become "Selection". No combo boxes will be added to it though. "What's this" help should be enough. Simplifying interfaces doesn't mean adding redundant help text between widgets. Thanks for suggesting.
INVALID, since for KDE4 we aim for a re-design of print dialogs *anyway*.... ...however, don't take this as a *promise*. We do not yet know if we ever come round to do it. We currently do not have enough people with... (a) ...time, (b) ...willingness and (c) ...skills to code substantial changes into KDEPrint. My current cleanup activities in KDEPrint bugzilla are an attempt to get rid of old cruft and pave the way to some future work. Sorry, pholie -- this doesn't mean your comment was not appreciated.
Closing old Resolved status bug.
