Description Stefan Zosel 2005-11-02 13:55:36 UTC
Version: 1.1.2 (using KDE KDE 3.4.3)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

If i use Kontact/Kmail with KWalletManager - the stored password's for my pop-accounts get lost after some time (1 or 2 ours). I have to re-enter the passwords regularly.

If i dont use KWalletManager (store password in KMail-Configuration), everything works well.

I had the same problem with older versions.

Stefan

What makes you think this is a kwalletmanager bug, let alone a kwallet bug?
Comment 2 Stefan Zosel 2005-11-02 19:48:00 UTC
If i disable kwalletmanager, all passwords are saved korrectly within kmail. I have this behaviour only if i activate kwalletmngr.
I use 4 pop accounts and i have the same problem for all 4 accounts in the same manner.

That doesn't mean it's a kwalletmanager bug, nor a kwallet bug.

ok ... when you say that, i can believe you - i only said, that the kontact/kmail-passwords gets lost when i use it together with kwallet - and i signed it as a (possible) kontact-bug.
i (truly) don't know, which part is reponsible for that behaviour.

I know. I was asking that original question of the person who assigned the
bug to me. I'm trying to figure out why he did that. You filed it in the
right place.

My reason: he said that the password worked once or twice, but stopped working after a while. And that it only happened with KWallet enabled. So it's one of two: a bug in KWallet or a bug in the KMail code dealing with KWallet.

Since I know you handle KWallet bugs pretty fast, I'd like to get your opinion first. If it isn't KWallet, we can reassign to KMail.

Just a side note: I've never lost a single password with KWallet.

  I think it's either KMail, or a kded lockup/crash.

  That's George-abuse. :-) I'd prefer a cc: with a question than a
reassignment.

Me neither, nor have I ever had a report of such except during development
when I committed a bad patch once.

That's what you get for being responsive :-)

I'll remember that in the future.

To the poster: can you find out if, when the passwords stop working, the kded process is still running?
Comment 9 Stefan Zosel 2005-11-04 10:15:58 UTC
Hi

the kded is still running - but i found out something else:

One wrong password is stored within Kwallet. KMail ask me th re-enter the password, give me access (for one time) but do not! update the kwallet-password.
So the next time the password is wrong again.

Maybe i had some wrong passwords in the past (because i have to change it every 3 months ...)

Now i changed my password within kwalletmanager and it seems to work.

I there was an wrong password within kmail, then the option "store passwords" within kmail get lost. It would be better to keep that option as the client choosed.

Let's try KMail then.

Hi again

i have the same behavoir with kopete/jabber-plugin.
kopete does not update new passworts to kwallet - i have to modify it manually.

Comment 13 Stefan Zosel 2008-07-30 08:34:09 UTC
