Description Niels 2005-11-01 16:35:00 UTC
Version: 1.3.5 (using KDE KDE 3.4.92)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

I believe this bug must already have been filed, but I can't find it just now. I believe it's somewhat related to bug #102668 and bug #102476.

KDE has excellent support for browsing archives and remote folders. But trying to play files in such locations doesn't go so well with Amarok.

In konqueror I can easily go to the folder zip:/home/niels/No.5_in_A_minor.zip/ but trying to play a file in there doesn't work. Amarok adds it to the playing list, but nothing happens. This is, obviously, because the engine doesn't understand the path.

Amarok is more a frontend for various engines rather than a stand-alone player. This is the explanation offered for not being able to do gapless playing. Fair enough, but in that case the task of somehow transfering files and paths to the actual engine must lie with Amarok.

Use gstreamer.
Comment 2 Niels 2005-11-01 17:08:47 UTC
Resolved?

Gstreamer doesn't work for me, in spite of many attempts. But that's not the point. The point is, as I wrote, that Amarok should work with _any_ engine. Amarok is a front end, its purpose is to act as an abstraction layer.

Your answer doesn't adress the issues I'm pointing out. Please reopen this bug report if you're at all interested in listening to your users.

Re-open, it's a serious bug.
Kaffeine can play these files without problems.

You mean Kaffeine can play zip:/ files or what specifically? I highly doubt it can use any KIO url.
