Description Dik Takken 2005-10-16 20:25:27 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.1)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux

This problem occurs when you try to delete selected files by using the RMB menu while holding the SHIFT button.

How to reproduce:

* Select multiple files, using CTRL and/or SHIFT keys.
* Hold the SHIFT key and click the right mouse button to see the RMB menu with a 'remove file' entry in stead of 'move to trash' entry.

The action of pressing the SHIFT key while clicking to get the RMB menu causes the file selection to change. The risk of permanently removing random files is high, which is why IMHO this bug should be marked critical.

SHIFT + MB2 (the right MB) will extend from the last selection, even if nothing is selected currently.

I don't see the sense of this behaviour, so extending the selection should be restricted to MB1 only, I think.

When seeing the date of your bug report together with the status, it does not seem to make much sense in reporting such misbehaviours. Does anyone care?

Probably this will not be fixed on 3.5.

I've tested a bit Dolphin which is working in a different way. Selecting multiple files is not yet completed.

I think this bug can be closed. You should wait for Dolphin 4 :-)

Do you agree?

@Peter: what do you think about this usecase? (SHIFT + rmb click for selecting files)

I've just tested it with the trunk version of Dolphin and I think the current behavior is OK. BTW: this is done by Qt itself, changing this in Dolphin only would not make sense IMHO.

I think this bug should NOT be closed before KDE 4 is ready to replace KDE 3.
Comment 6 A. Spehr 2008-05-13 04:50:31 UTC
Peter: Can this be closed? Is it a Qt bug?

Dik: If we did that for all bugs, they would all still be open, :P
as there certainly seem to be plenty of people whining that KDE4 isn't "ready".
Please trust the developers to know when it is feasible/desirable to make backports, and remember they are volunteers with limited time.

The behavior is defined by Qt, but I don't see this as bug at all.

ok, then closing.
indeed, i don't see any mis-file selection/changes in dolphin
