Description Anders Norgaard 2005-10-06 09:37:03 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.2)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.5-r1, ssp-3.3.2-3, pie-8.7.7.1)
OS: Linux

On this pdf - the rendering is just very slow - maybe the pdf is broken

Well, this pdf just hits kpdf where it does worse, drawing images, each page is a whole image so that's why it's slow. I can try to imrpove it but it's not going to be easy, sorry :-/

Well - no problem - I suspected something like that was the problem. But I thought I might as well provide a test case. I have now tried the pdf on Adobe Reader on windows and it is also noticably slower than with other pdf's - but more useable than KPDF.

Another few documents that I've found problems with - I am guessing that it is related:
http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/dw/specs/ws-sca/SCA_AssemblyModel_V09.pdf
http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/dw/specs/ws-sca/SCA_BuildingYourFirstApplication_V09.pdf

I attempted to print the first document, and it failed miserably (400+ blank pages).

I thought I'd add a comment because I'm using KDE 3.4.3 with GCC 3.4.4.

I also thought that the fact that it doesn't print might provide some insight.

Indeed, I also notice that kpdf displays pdf's with scanned pages much slower then Abobe Acrobat Reader does. My kpdf is 0.4.1, kde is 3.4.1.

It is actually important, since still quite a lot of articles around are pdf's with scanned pages and slow rendering makes it difficult to look through an article.

I've just compiled kpdf 0.5.3 and it works quite fast now.

Thank you for your bug report or feature suggestion.

The "KPDF" application is no longer maintained, and all tickets are now closed.

We recommend to switch to the "Okular" application.

Due to the high number of bugs/suggestions in "KPDF" we are not able to go through all of them and verify if they are still valid in "Okular".

That's why are we asking you to help us by checking if your bug/suggestion is still valid in Okular and if it still is opening a new bug/suggestion against it.

Thank you for your effort in making KDE better :)
