Description Stéphane Magnenat 2005-09-29 09:59:15 UTC
Version: 3.4.1 (using KDE 3.4.1, Debian Package 4:3.4.1-1 (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.6 (Debian 1:3.3.6-5)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.9-1-686

I'm using my imap server to store my caldendar/contacts/... using disconnected imap in kontact. There is an update bug, both with contacts and calendar. If I add a new event in calendar for instance, then I either do a File->Save or do a check mail in kmail, the event disappear. If I do a check mail again it reappear. I've the problem both with 3.4 and 3.5beta. This is annoying because it gives a feeling of non-trustability. Furthermore, I've already lost some newly added events because of this, although I can't exactly figure when to close kontact to reproduce the data loss. I think it would be very good to fix this for kde 3.5

Ah, so I'm not alone! I tried to debug the problem with Till Adam a while ago and it seems that immediately after uploading a message to the mail server, the mail server does not report this message as existing. Thus it is removed locally in kmail (although it is actually on the server).
Only after a short while the mail server reports the mail in his message list (second sync), and then it is re-downloaded again to the local cache.

BTW, I have a courier imap server, version 3.0.8.

I agree that this gives a very bad impression on korganizer / kontact as it seems that some entries are simply lost. I was confused more than once by this problem.

Cheers,
Reinhold

I'm also using courier 3.0.8 (3.0.8-4sarge2), perhaps it is a courier bug. Does anyone knows if it works fine with others imap servers?
Comment 3 Stéphane Magnenat 2005-10-10 15:28:08 UTC
What do you think? Should we report it as a courier bug?

I've reported this bug to the Debian bug tracker system as Bug#334045 (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=334045)

It is no courier bug, I see the same behaviour with uw-imap.
Comment 6 Stéphane Magnenat 2006-04-13 18:26:10 UTC
Just for information, problem is still present in KDE 3.5.1. Debian people tend to say it's not an imap server bug but rather a missinterpreted specified behaviour in the client. I hope this bug will be fixed soon as it's a quite disturbing behaviour.

Thanks

The problem is still in KDE 3.5.5
Comment 8 Reinhold Kainhofer 2006-11-02 19:14:04 UTC
Reassigning all KOrganizer bug reports and wishes to the newly created
korganizer-devel mailing list.
Comment 9 Stéphane Magnenat 2007-01-22 17:41:01 UTC
Is there any progress with this bug? It render the use of kmail groupeware features quite unstable.
Comment 10 Sergio Martins 2009-05-31 03:46:58 UTC
Is this still an issue with korganizer 4.2 ?
Comment 11 Stéphane Magnenat 2009-06-01 17:18:18 UTC
The bug seems fix in the sense that the event disappear but reappears within one second. While this behavior is not very nice, it is certainly acceptable.

Ok, closing then.
I also think akonadi fixes this. I can't reproduce.
