Description Anton G. Alvedro 2005-09-08 09:35:36 UTC
Version: 3.4.2 (using KDE 3.4.2, Kubuntu Package 4:3.4.2-0ubuntu0hoary2 )
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-8ubuntu2)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.11.12

I open korganizer every morning at work, but it opens in the kmail view by default (because there is where it is when I close the KDE session). If I don't enter the Calendar view at least once, calendar alarms will not be triggered, althoguh korganizer is up'n running.

Is the korgac process running after you've logged in to KDE? That's the reminder daemon and should be running in order to get alarm notifications. You can see if it's running when you see a little calendar with a bell in front of it in the system tray.

Sorry for the delay. I was crazy busy, and had no time to verify this...

No, it is actually not runing. I open Korganizer, it opens at the mail client (that's ok, that's what I want), but, korgac is not launched until I switch to the calendar. When I switch to the calendar, then I can see the little calendar in the sys tray.

I would say that the calendar daemon should be started as soon as the PIM suit is started, and not just kcalendar, don't you think?

I can confirm this behavior in 3.4.2. I run kontact, which I have set to start with kmail. korgac is not running (the calendar/bell icon is not in the system tray) until I switch to the calendar app.

Reassigning all KOrganizer bug reports and wishes to the newly created
korganizer-devel mailing list.

Right click on the calendar icon in the systemtray, on recent (3.5 and 4.1) version you'll have an option: "start reminder daemon at login". This have to be enabled.
Does it solve the problem for you?
