Description Pieter Botha 2005-08-10 20:09:54 UTC
Version: 3.4.2 (using KDE KDE 3.4.2)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: 3.3.5 20050117 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux)
OS: Linux

This bug has come a long way...
I'm using Nvidia pci express 6200tc .
This happens on both gentoo 64 and suse 64.
When composite is enabled and quanta is opened, X crash - guaranteed.
I dont know how to get a back trace for this one as X crash :(

Well if X crashes it is not Quanta's problem. The composite extension in
X is heavily driver dependend, so you might try it with a new driver
(if it's available) and a new X release.
Anyway this is a bug that cannot be fixed on the application side, so I
have to close it.

*SOLUTION*

If you are using NVIDIA propiertary drivers, you could solve the problem adding to your DEVICE SECTION on XORG.CONF the next line:

Option "UseCompositeWrapper" "true"

Great!!!!

Inspired by this and I blog post elsewhere I tried disabling "direct rendering" from the desktop > advanced menu in system settings. So far, so good!

No clue why!
